What is eDiscovery?

Most of us know what the legal term discovery means: the process of acquiring and exchanging evidence, or information that may become evidence, in litigation. Electronic discovery (eDiscovery), is just the electronic piece of identifying, collecting and producing electronically stored information (ESI) in response to a request in a lawsuit and/or investigation. ESI includes emails, documents, voicemails, audio and video files, social media, websites, and phone text messages, to name a few of the common data types.

However, with the growing expanse of digital data, companies and individuals may have hundreds of different electronic file types on their computers and digital devices.  It is important that all data be analyzed for relevancy, which means your eDiscovery solution must be able to process and handle many data types. Today, legal discovery has become very focused on electronically stored information (ESI), which is why lawyers often use the term eDiscovery to distinguish the discovery of electronic records from other forms of discovery.  You can understand why, since greater than 90% of a company's information is stored electronically.  The challenge of accessing, searching, reviewing, and producing this data has been solved with specialized eDiscovery software and applications.

eDiscovery software, like Indexed I/O, allows legal professionals to process, analyze, review, and produce electronic documents, while automating many manual steps required during the non-electronic discovery process.  The growing trend now, especially with the focus being on remote work environments, are cloud-based or remote eDiscovery solutions.  Cloud-based software, like Indexed I/O, allows you and your team to upload, review, and produce data online.  The full eDiscovery solution can be utilized from any location that has internet service, maximizing productivity, while saving attorneys and their clients, time and money.
